Product Description
Traditional imaging sonars rely on mechanical scanning to generate an image of the seafloor. The Omniscan 450 FS Imaging Sonar takes a completely different approach—it puts scanning in the hands of the ROV pilot.
Instead of waiting for a mechanical scanner to slowly sweep an area, the Omniscan 450 FS builds an image dynamically as the ROV moves. This means you can instantly focus on specific areas of interest. Cerulean’s SonarView software “paints” the image in real-time, giving pilots complete control over where and how they scan.
Explore & Navigate: See the Unseeable
The Omniscan 450 FS offers a 120 meter range, allowing you to detect targets far beyond the ROV’s reach. Its 50 degree vertical beamwidth ensures you can see objects far below the ROV, even when operating high off the seafloor
This Omniscan 450 FS helps you easily locate and approach targets, making it ideal for wreck hunting and navigation. It reveals details that other imaging sonars might overlook, and can assist in locating objects that are difficult to detect.
Built for the BlueROV2
The Omniscan 450 FS includes nearly everything necessary for easy installation on the BlueROV2, but you’ll need a few more things to get started: an Ethernet Switch for proper operation and a Roof Rack if you’re looking to top-mount the sonar. The Omniscan 450 FS can also be mounted to the bottom panel of the ROV by drilling a few holes. Check out the integration guide for full information.
If you purchased the Omniscan 450 FS directly from Cerulean, you might want to give our standalone mounting bracket a try.
The Omniscan 450 FS is also rated to 100 meters, like our standard BlueROV2 model.
Unlock Powerful Scanning Capabilities
The Omniscan 450 FS can be paired with a Doppler Velocity Log (DVL) to enable 2D motion tracking in SonarView. With 2D motion tracking, scanning is translational as well as rotational.
Using a pair of Omniscan 450 FS sonars, one forward and one 90 degrees to either side, also unlocks full 2D motion tracking within Cerulean’s SonarView.

1 Thereafter limited by range and speed of sound. Examples: 10 Hz @ 50m, 5 Hz @ 140m range setting.
2 Far Field distance is the range beyond which the beam width specification is valid. At nearer distances the effective beam width gets wider, and sidelobes get larger.
3 This is the nominal theoretical 2-way (transmit and receive) 3dB beam width.
All specifications are available on the Cerulean Sonar site.
